What is Mock Trial?

In mock trial, student teams participate in trials that follow legal procedures to simulate real litigation. Acting as lawyers and witnesses, each team has the opportunity to present both the prosecution and the defense cases to real judges, and volunteer attorneys score their presentations.

Do I receive credit for participating in Mock Trial?

Yes. Juniata offers a 3 credit Mock Trial course in the Fall Semester and a 1 credit course in the Spring Semester.

Do I need to be a pre-law student to participate in Mock Trial?

No. We have students in all major disciplines on our Mock Trial team. Mock Trial helps student be successful within their respective discipline by teaching students oral communication skills as well as quick thinking.

How often does the team compete?

The team typically attends five weekend long invitationals as well as competing in the AMTA National Tournament.

What expenses are covered?

The team will cover all travel, housing, and meal expenses while at a competition. There is no fundraising required.

Will Mock Trial help with Law School?

Yes. The skills and experiences gained in Mock trial are definitely transferrable to Law School.
